Switzerland Day 5

Left early in the morning and took a train to Winterthur. We walked around the town a bit, found a brokenhaus and did some treasure hunting. Then we hopped on a train to Konstanz, which we thought was in Switzerland but was actually just over the border in Germany. So we walked around the old part of the town and then made our way on foot back to Switzerland. The Swiss town on the border opposing Konstanz, Germany was Kreuzlingen. We took a ferry on the lake to Romanshorn and then a train to St. Gallen. In St. Gallen we found the oldest Brokenhaus in Switzerland, in operation over 100 years. We got back to Bern shortly after 8pm and played a game of Parchisi with Grossmama and Grosspapa. It was a really fun day of traveling and exploring by train and ferry.

Not a great photo since I shot it from the train, but it typifies the landscape we traveled through during the day. I thought it was great to spot these old Roman guard towers, castles, and other structures from medieval times.

Mom enjoyed eating massive chunks of various cheeses on our train travels. She could put down a whole wedge of cheese like she was eating an apple - then be sick later in the evening! She even got a scolding from Grosspapa for it once. A guilty pleasure worth an occasional indulgence I guess.

I think this street was in Konstanz, Germany

One of the little towns we passed by on our ferry trip from Kreuzlingen to Romanshorn.

Arriving in the harbor at Romanshorn.

I'm not sure where we saw the balloon. Too bad it was hazy and not a great photo.
