Not Prepared for Summer in Alaska

Devin and I decided to go out and enjoy the Alaskan beauty that surrounds us. So we hopped in the car and drove to Hatcher Pass. As we were driving up there it started to rain. Wanting to go on a long walk we decided to keep going. When we got to our destination we realized that we didn't have our rain jackets (Devin didn't even have a sweater to wear). By this time it was pouring so we decided to go back to one of our favorite places to walk in Palmer called the Matanuska River Park. When we got there we started walking and realized that we didn't have mosquito spray. We got eaten alive on a short ten minute walk! We stopped for a picture to post on the blog but Devin was getting "attacked" while taking the pictures that none of them turned out. So the moral of the story is... always have a rain jacket and always have bug spray when you are venturing out in the Alaskan wilderness. You never know what your going to get. I guarantee that the rest of the summer we will!

Finally an update

We have received several requests for an update to our blog. It has been over 6 months since the last post. As I look back at the last six months it seems there has been a lot that has happened in our lives. In January we went on a crusie to Mexico. Which was an adventure that will never be forgotten. If fact we are already planning to go on another one in five years. Anyone up for an adventure with us? This winter Devin has been super busy traveling throughout the United States, mostly to the East coast. His travels are finally calming down for the summer! I am very excited because there is so much to do here. Devin has already checked several items off the the to-do list. He has fixed the fence, helped build a flower bed in the front under the window, put sod down in some spots in the yard that were bare and the thing I love the most is he helped dig an area for our small garden. This area is primarily for potatoes, zuccini and pumpkins. I hope it works. I always look forward to the summer. Hopefully we can do some camping and I think we are going to try our hands at fishing next week. This week we have been focusing on fixing our living room up. It is nice to have some new decorations to spice it up a little. I will get some pictures up soon. I will try and keep the blog up to date since life is changing soon for us. More to come!!!!!

Day after Thanksgiving

Well I have decided it is about time I add another blogg. It has been way to long. Yesterday was Thanksgiving. We went over to Devin's parents for dinner and some games. I have to say that everything was superb!!!! Every dish was excellent. My mouth waters just thinking about it. We then played 2 games of Skip-Bo and a game of Yatzee. There is nothing like enjoying a nice Thanksgivng meal and having some games afterward. We were planning on going for a walk but the weather has been so crazy. I feel like I am in Utah again with the weather warming up and all the snow melting. The only difference is that it is a mess here and it freezes at night so have some slick stuff in the morning.
Today Devin didn't have to work and was able to go some of the stores for their special morning sales. I had to go into work. Not the most perferred way to spend the day after Thanksgiving but I guess it happens that way. Well I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day

Just an Update

Devin and I have been having a great summer so far. We have been enjoying our weekend adventures. This weekend we went with some friends the Pratt's to see the Matanuska Glacier. This is the only glacier in Alaska that you can drive to. Unfortunately, it costs so much per person we decided not to got all the way to the glacier. We did find a nice lodge to eat at that had a wonderful view of the glacier. It was fun to get to know the Pratt's and once again admire the beautiful landscapes of Alaska. It is fun to add to the adventures and we continue to enjoy living here. Devin mentions frequently how much he loves Alaska. I have began to love Alaska and the life that we are creating here. Even though at times I want to be near my family, it is wonderful to be near Devin's parents. Our Sundays are always filled with great food, laughter and long walks. These are time I have come to look forward to. Well until our next adventure!

Family

Today my blog is dedicated to Family. Two weeks ago Devin and I were able to visit family in Utah. You don't realize unitl you are with them again how much family means. It is amazing that not matter what you have done or how you may treat them they still love you. Again today I was able to visit with Aunt Roberta who is my Grandma's sister. Even though I don't know her well we were connected and love each other because we are family. Family is an amazing institution. Family is what holds each of us together. Without my family I would be lost! Thank you Mom, Dad, Anna, Nate, Kelsey, Morgan, Aleah, Scott, Michele, Wayne, DEVIN, Ruth, Dave, Lillie, Clark, Ben, Daniel,Lisa, Matt, Tia, Leslie and the list goes on and on and on for your love and support! (sorry this is so cheesy, it is how I feel right now!)

Just a little bit of Nothing

So I feel like writing a blog. I don't really know what to write about so, I have decided to write about nothing. Nothing is a very odd word. If you think about it, the word nothing doesn't mean anything really. Nothing can be whatever you want. So take a moment and think about nothing... What comes into your mind? Anything? For me, nothing is everything. I have noticed you can't really think about nothing. So the next time you ask someone what their thinking and they say nothing, you probably know that isn't true. So, the moral of the thought is... enjoy thinking about something. Life's too short to think about nothing!!! It's not even possible!

Spring is here

I know my last post was about moose...but this morning when Devin took Lexie out for her morning ritual she started to bark. This is unusual for Lexie in the mornings, so we ran to see what she could be barking at. Sure enough there was a moose having his breakfast on our bushes outside. This was Lexie's first encounter with a moose. I don't know if she knew what to think. As a proud parent I am happy to say she handled herself very well. At least we know now she won't run and hide behind a tree if she encounters another one.
I am EXCITED to say that my fingers are no longer frozen! Spring is here. Most of the snow in my yard is melted and I can actually see our landscaped lawn! My favorite part about the Spring right now is that birds are starting to appear in the sky. Geese, swans, eagles, and other fowl in the air that I have no idea what they are but it is fun see them. I guess my Dad really made me love looking for the birds and watching them, mesmerized in their graceful wings as they sore through the sky. Again my thoughts are towards nature and it's beauty that I am surrounded by daily! Devin and I are blessed to live in such a beautiful and magnificent place God has created for us!

Moosie

I wanted to post that as I am sitting writing to you outside my office window I see this cute moose. It is probably only a year or two but it is eating the branches of the trees. Oh it is looking at me!!!! WOW only in Alaska! It is amazing that little things like this can make me smile and get excited. It has been outside my window for about an hour. To bad I don't have a camera. I guess you will have to close your eyes and picture it.

Fingers still frozen!

Today has been another cold day. It hit -10 in Palmer this morning. I would think that by the middle of March things would be warming up.... The answer is no. All I can picture right now is being with Anna in her warm climate weather. Although in the Summer I am sure the role will be reversed.

Attaching to my blog today is where I would like to be. In sunny California. This picture was taken last week in about 70 degree weather. How lovely!!!!! Hope you all have a great warm day! I think I will go make me a cup of hot chocolate!

YAHOOOOOO

Well I thought that since it is Friday afternoon I would relax a little at work and add a new post. It seems here in Alaska everyone is sick. Every house I go, to at least one person is sick. In our office today half of my co workers are home with this nasty head cold. In fact, I am the only Program Coordinator left in the office. I have been going through Purell hand sanitazer like crazy and popping vitamins right and left. I am proud to say that I have not gotten any of the viruses yet but there is still cold weather and more of it to come. I am Thankful for my health. I feel very fortunate to have good health and no problems to speak of.
Devin has been in California for the past two weeks. I am going to pick him up later on this afternoon. I am really excited to have him home and to have some company. He had such a wonderful break from the cold weather. He was able to drive the coast of California. He says that it was beautiful and refreshing to get a tan and walk outside with out shivering! He also was able to have a successful time finding more information about the fishing in CA. He even told me he wouldn't mind living in Cresent City, which is a small fishing community in Northern CA.
As for me, life has basically remained the same. I am just happy it is Friday! Nothing like a good weekend to refresh you.
